Lesson 2 of 6

How to spot a fake job or a fee scam

Warning signs that a job offer is a trap, and what to do if you see one.

3 min +10 points

Warning signs

Fake jobs try to take your money or your documents. Be careful if you see any of these:

  • They ask for a registration, training, uniform or "security" fee.
  • The salary is much higher than other jobs for the same work.
  • They want you to decide today, with no time to think.
  • They will only talk on chat, never meet you, and have no real address.
  • They ask for your bank PIN, UPI PIN or OTP.

Protect your documents

Never give your original Aadhaar card, passport or certificates to anyone to keep. Show the original, give a photocopy, and write on the copy what it is for, like "For job at ABC Hotel only".

What to do

  1. 1Do not pay. Do not share any PIN or OTP.
  2. 2Talk to someone you trust before you decide.
  3. 3On IndicJobs, tap Report on the job. Our team checks it.
  4. 4If you lost money, call the cyber crime helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in.
