Lesson 3 of 4

Your rights at work

Basic rights every worker in India has, and where to get help.

4 min +10 points

Fair pay

Your state sets a minimum wage for each kind of work. Your employer must pay at least that, on time, every month. Extra hours beyond the normal shift should be paid as overtime.

Rest and safety

  • A weekly day off.
  • Safe working conditions: safety gear for risky work, clean drinking water and toilets.
  • First aid, and help if you are hurt at work.

Respect

No one may abuse, beat or threaten you. Women have the right to work without sexual harassment; workplaces with 10 or more people must have a committee to handle complaints.

Where to get help

  1. 1Talk to your supervisor or HR first, calmly, and keep notes.
  2. 2If it isn't solved, contact your district labour office.
  3. 3If you are in danger, call 112.
